Notes and References 6/10/01 In the 2nd section of the lesson, God The Only Cause and Creator, is found the following paragraph from our Leader. 187:18 I found the paragraph interesting because I am often tempted to blame my problems of someone else or some condition outside of my control. The logic used in this citation disputes that type of thinking and tells us that the quality of our thought determines our experience. Thus improving or purifying our thought should improve our situation no matter how unrelated or involuntary it seems. How is this possible? Let’s look at another paragraph later in the lesson: Turning to Mind, God for the inspiration needed to see clearly what needs to be done, allow you to see the falsity of the claim you think you are under attack from and in turn helps you to realize the Truth that is right where you are. Armed with the Truth you can see your way out of any situation. Look at the following paragraph from Mis 204:23 By purifying human thought, this state of mind permeates with increased harmony all the minutiae of human affairs. It brings with it wonderful foresight, wisdom, and power; it unselfs the mortal purpose, gives steadiness to resolve, and success to endeavor. Through the accession of spirituality, God, the divine Principle of Christian Science, literally governs the aims, ambition, and acts of the Scientist. The divine ruling gives prudence and energy; it banishes forever all envy, rivalry, evil thinking, evil speaking and acting; and mortal mind, thus purged, obtains peace and power outside of itself. This is consistent with out class several weeks ago which centered around the need to change your thinking in order to be healed.: 162:9 Understanding that everything confronting you is a false belief residing in your own thought means that you are not really under attack from contagion, envy, hate or accident. Another’s thought cannot touch you unless you have something in your own thought that is receptive to such a mortal belief. We have all heard of Christian Scientists doing their “protective work”. What is that?” Mrs. Eddy never mentioned protective work anywhere in her writings. Protection from what? All is Mind and its manifestation! We hear often a Christian Scientist being very quiet about something going on in their lives and think that they are afraid that if the word gets out malpractice will come in and ruin everything. Well, they are correct about the need to keep quiet but not for reasons of fear or protection. Instead, we as Christian Scientists realize that one persons inspiration is not another’s. If we are to be true to the inspiration (the word of God coming to our thinking) then we need to stay free of human fears and opinions; free from human will and manipulation. The purity of the idea must be allowed to mature in our thought and change or nature (move our thought to a change of base). Besides it just isn’t anyone else’s business.
