3/21/99 Come Out From the Material World

“to come out from the material world and be separate…”
Citations and Notes from Sunday School Class – 3/21/99
S&H 451:2-4
Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. (This is the only time Mrs. Eddy uses the word “pressure” in her writings.)

Three Hebrews in the Fiery Furnace
Remember that they were thrown in bound but they were walking loose in the fire. Thus, that which bound them was burned but nothing else! Also there was not even the smell of smoke on them.

Dan 3:21,24,25
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellers, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellers, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

“a woman having an issue of blood”

Remember that this story occurred right in the middle of Jesus’ rush to the centurion’s house where the centurion’s son was dying. It was an emergency yet Jesus stopped to deal with this woman who could have just as easily been healed after the emergency. During this healing the servant comes to the centurion and tells him not to trouble the Master, his son is dead. Jesus tells him that his son is well! When the centurion goes home he finds that his son was healed at the exact same hour when Jesus had said that.

Luke 8: 43-47
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

Don’t be timid about taking a moral stand!

Jeremiah 10:5
Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

Pul 3:7-11
Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love. If you maintain this position, who or what can cause you to sin or suffer?

S&H 452:14-15
Never breathe an immoral atmosphere, unless in the attempt to purify it.

Mis 204:23
By purifying human thought, this state of mind permeates with increased harmony all the minutiae of human affairs. It brings with it wonderful foresight, wisdom, and power; it unselfs the mortal purpose, gives steadiness to resolve, and success to endeavor. Through the accession of spirituality, God, the divine Principle of Christian Science, literally governs the aims, ambition, and acts of the Scientist. The divine ruling gives prudence and energy; it banishes forever all envy, rivalry, evil thinking, evil speaking and acting; and mortal mind, thus purged, obtains peace and power outside of itself.
