Seek the Pearl, the Treasure and the Seed
Citations from Sunday School Class March 14, 1999What do the seed, the treasure and the pearl have in common? What is old and new about them? Matthew 13:1,2,31,32,44-46,52
1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that
he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is
like to a grain of mustard seed,which a took, and sowed in his field:
32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it
is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds
of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy
thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is
an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

As a material, theoretical life-basis is found to be a misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine
Principle of man dawns upon human thought, and leads it to "where the young child was," --even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes.

How can matter originate or transmit mind? We answer that it cannot. Darkness and doubt encompass thought, so long as it bases creation on materiality. From a material standpoint, "Canst thou by searching find out God?" All must be Mind, or else all must be matter. Neither can produce the other.
Mind is immortal; but error declares that the material seed must decay in order to propagate its species, and the resulting germ is doomed to the same routine. S&H 66:11
Spiritual development germinates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes, but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth. Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love. S&H 129:22-24
We must look deep into realism instead of accepting only the outward sense of things. S&H 428:19
We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material.
